Free parking for the handicapped

Tuesday 26 May 2009

A Labour party initiative to scrap parking charges for people who are officially registered as disabled looks set to win majority support in parliament, news agency ANP reports.

Currently, parking for the handicapped is free in some areas and not in others. Parking meters are also impossible to use by some people with a handicap, Labour MP Marjo van Dijken says.

Just make sure the disabled badge scheme is not abused and that lazy fit fat individuals cant buy, forge or fraudulently obtain these passes to escape parking charges like what has happened in the United Kingdom.

About time too. The Dutch state is way behind & in my opinion bordering on discrimination towards persons with special needs. Even though a small change like this is very welcoming as it will hopefully prevent getting fines in certin councils and makes planning our social life a little easier.
