Danish PM opposes Wilders' visit

Wednesday 06 May 2009

Denmark's new prime minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen would prefer that Dutch anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders was not invited to a conference on free speech in Copenhagen, local news agency Ritzau reports.

'I do not think Wilders should get an invitation,' Rasmussen was quoted as saying.

The conference has already been postponed to the autumn because of disagreements over the guest list.

Wilders told news agency ANP he would 'do all he could' to go to Denmark to give a speech on freedom of expression and Islam.

Meanwhile, Britain has published a list of 16 people banned from entering the country for fostering extremism or hate.

Wilders does not appear on the list because he is a European citizen and was refused entry under another ruling, the Telegraaf reports. Wilders was banned from the UK in February on the grounds that his presence could disrupt public order.

So, after the big "cartoon scare" freedon of speech is now stifled there. I'm no fan of Wilders, but I am of free speech. To exclude these people is even more dangerous than letting them speak. At least we know what they are getting up to.
FREE SPEECH - Use it or lose it people!

AW ask dutchnews if they really support FREEDOM of speech. then why they dont publish all comments posted by contributors. I personally think there is NO FREEDOM of speech anywhere on this planet. It is hard time we allow anyone who want to air or say his/her view. published. if not then we simply shut up.

I am also a supporter of freedom of speech and certainly have a serious level of disgust for Wilders.

The question here and perhaps that is what the Danish PM is implying is that there is a difference between going to a conference on Freedom of Speech and another going there to spout a political agenda already known to dispouse hatred for a certain faith and people. As the item put, Wilders wants to come to talk about freedom of speech "and Islam". Considering his already well known views, his own political agenda and his facing charges in his own country, that would also be enough for me to push that he be not invited.

There are clear differences between freedom of speech, propoganda and the fredom to slander.

FREE SPEECH - Respect it or lose it people!

Every country have got the limit to free speech. if i am wrong make why some statement are prosecuted and others not. If it is true that everyone can say everything then why prosecutions. freedom of speech does not exist so wilders should begin just at home. for Jake begins at home. when it is done then we can the go outside our boarders to preach them.
FREE SPEECH - Respect it, use it, defend it or lose it people!

Kwabena is in one aspect correct that true free speech should allow anything but we live in societies with ethics morals and values and must therefore limit types of speech at times and what is limited becomes a bit arbitrary depending on "Who's in charge."

I may detest what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it-- Voltaire.

This is the funniest thing I ever heard!

What next?
You are banned from the gym because the last time you worked out you used the equipment.

Your drivers license was revoked because you drove.

Your credit cards were cancelled because you used them.

There is DEFINITELY something in the water!

I pro Free Speech. But I do not pro INDIFINITE Free Speech. I against those free speeches which hurt ethics morals and social harmony, espeically they are from a leading politician in the country.
