Pay deal for Poles collapses
Wednesday 11 February 2009
A special pay deal for Polish and other eastern Europeans who work in the Netherlands via staffing agencies has collapsed, the Volkskrant reports on Wednesday.
The paper says the lack of support for the plan, drawn up by agencies which specialise in eastern European staff, had led to its collapse. Unions and MPs were opposed because it would mean Polish workers were paid less than the native Dutch for evening work and overtime.
