DAF to scrap 400 jobs in Holland

Truck maker DAF is to scrap 400 jobs in Eindhoven in June when it has used up the full 24 weeks government period which allows firms in financial difficulty to reduce employees’ working hours, news agency ANP reports on Tuesday.

On Monday it emerged that almost 900 jobs are to go at the DAF plant in Westerlo in Belgium.
DAF was one of the first Dutch companies to apply to lay off staff under the government’s short-time working scheme. Workers whose hours are cut get 70% of their salary from the unemployment benefit scheme and 30% from the company.
