30,000 cats simply disappear

Tuesday 17 February 2009

Of the 150,000 cats which go missing in the Netherlands every year, 30,000 are never seen again, says animal protection group Dierenbescherming.

To make it easier to trace missing them, cats should all be fitted with a micro chip, the organisation says. Dogs will have to be chipped from 2011 but there are no plans to introduce a similar system for cats.

There are "no" plans for cats because they are not given the same respect that a dog gets, in the Netherlands. My cats aren't allowed to go outside, except to the vet office.

I wonder if someone should check the local meat markets.

Check where those "animal testing labs" get their animals. The animals they expose to chemicals to make sure your hair does not fall out when using a new shampoo. I have heard they have people who look for animals to sell to these laboratories. How about they look into that angle?
