Fortis: decide now, say shareholders

Shareholders in the Fortis holding company on Friday narrowly voted against a management recommendation that a vote on the future of the holding be delayed.

The vote follows last week's court ruling in Brussels which said shareholders should have been consulted before the Fortis group was dismantled. A new shareholders meeting is scheduled for February 12.

Doubts have also now emerged about the court ruling following claims of political interference by the Belgian government.
