Supermarkets boost vegetable profits

Friday 15 August 2008

Supermarkets are increasingly using the sale of fresh vegetables to push up their profits margins to record levels, according to figures by the market research firm GfK, report the GPD newspapers on Friday.

Thijs Jasperse, chairman of the vegetable growers’ association, claims supermarkets have increased their profit margins 33% in the last five years while growers’ prices have remained ‘at best the same’.
