Prince and family feel unsafe in Argentina

Friday 11 July 2008

Crown prince Willem-Alexander and princess Máxima will make fewer visits to Argentina now they are building a holiday home in Mozambique, the Volkskrant reports on Friday.

'We don't feel safe in Buenos Aires. The way the Argentine press behave is very threatening, especially for the children', Máxima, who is Argentinian by birth, was reported as saying.
The princess made the comments after the traditional pre-summer photo shoot close to the family home in Wassenaar.

On Thursday it emerged that the couple is planning to build a house on the Mozambique coast. Willem-Alexander said they had been approached by friends about the project two years ago. Locals are very much involved in the developments around the project, such as building schools and sanitation, the prince said.

And although the 10-hour flight is not environment-friendly, 'these days it is utopia to talk about not flying, but there are compensation funds,' Willem-Alexander said.

During the short interview it also emerged that Máxima is not only a regular lunch time supervisor at her oldest daughter Amalia's primary school but is also an official 'nit mother' and helps check Amalia and her classmates for head lice.

Amalia also showed herself to have a mean left foot at football, ANP says.

It's kind of a symptom of our times when royalty is pressured into becoming dinner ladies and hair lice inspectors in order to gain public approval and to be seen as 'normal' people.

I have lived both in South Africa and Mozambique and can tell you that Mozambique is far safer and especially were they are building there home as I have a place in that area myself.
