Paternity leave unpopular

Wednesday 18 June 2008

Two out of five fathers do not claim their statutory right to parental leave because they think it will hurt their career, according to new research from the national statistics office CBS.

Women who did not take the extra leave said it was because it was financially disadvantageous. In total, one in 10 parents did not take the time off to which they were entitled.

Parents with children under the age of eight are entitled to 13 weeks of unpaid leave, spread out over at least 26 weeks.
