Euro 2008: Cruijff praises Dutch squad
Monday 23 June 2008
Holland’s football players and coaches deserve an ‘enormous compliment’ for putting Dutch football back on the map at Euro 2008, former international turned tv pundit Johan Cruijff said on Monday.
‘Hopefully they will learn from their mistakes and be even stronger at the World Cup in South Africa,’ he said in today's Telegraaf.
Cruijff, who is known for his sharp criticism, also praised coach Marco van Basten for making a team out of so many headstrong young men. ‘That is one of the most difficult jobs facing a coach,’ he said.

Perhaps Cruijff is right but if van Basten would pay more attention to preparing his team against Russia instread to be so concerned with the fate of Italy I am sure that the netherlands could be still in the game and not to be eleiminated paradixically together with italy. I do not understand why according media Your coach was so happy he helped Italy to advance further.Any good coach should be first of all be concerned by his own team. It is again a proof that to be a good player is not the same as being later also equally good coach. That he used to play in Italy and had friends there is not reason to be so happy that Italy advanced. If he would have paid more attention to his on team preparations against ussia I am sure this team would be still in competition.
