Labour’s jobless plan wins support

Monday 26 May 2008

A Labour party (PvdA) plan to simplify the maze of rules surrounding efforts to help the most hard-to-place unemployed people in to work has won the backing of the FNV trade union federation and other political parties, the AD reports on Monday.

The plan, entitled ‘give opportunities, take opportunities’ involves ensuring that all the schemes for the hard-to-place – welfare, the young handicapped scheme (Wajong) and subsidised jobs – all offer similar levels of help.

It also involves transferring responsibility for unemployment benefit (ww) to employers and unions and giving local authorities a greater role in helping people find jobs. The PvdA also says employers should be subsidised for taking on people with physical or mental health difficulties.
