Holland leads world in telephone taps

The Dutch authorities authorised 12,491 telephone taps in the second half of last year, making it the most tapped country in the world, according to justice ministry figures in Friday's Volkskrant.
In the US there were just 2,208 telephone taps in all of 2007.
In particular tapping phone convesations between lawyers and their customers often gives cause for concern, the paper said.

This takes place in the land of freedom??? And the Dutch pride themselves on their culture. Seems like this isn't a culture but a police state.
