Jesus is a child of rape says film-maker

Dutch film-maker Paul Verhoeven is to publish a biography of Jesus in September in which he claims Jesus’ father was probably a Roman soldier who raped Mary during the Jewish uprising, news agency Reuters reports on Wednesday.

Verhoeven (Basic Instinct, Showgirls) has had a life-long ambition to make a film about Jesus based on scientific research, Reuters says.

Verhoeven's claim about Jesus's patrimony reminds me of the premise of a Canadian film, Jesus of Montreal, in which similar assertions were made by a group of actors putting on a passion play. Does anyone know the origins of this "urban legend?" It must have been circulating for some time now.

Such an endeavor by Verhoeven will be met by most Christians without anger but "pity" that such a work of fiction and ignorance is paraded as a "biography." The biography of Jesus is well known, (the Bible) and in it is written about people like Verhoeven
