Herfkens refuses to repay rent

UN diplomat and former Dutch government minister Eveline Herfkens is refusing to repay some €190,000 she was wrongly given to pay for her New York flat, foreign minister Maxime Verhagen told MPs on Thursday.

Herfkens denies she knew the payment was in breach of UN rules and says it was offered freely by the ministry.

Verhagen said he wants to wait for a UN investigation into the affair before taking the matter further.
