Dutch cabinet regrets film screeningThursday 27 March 2008 The Dutch cabinet regrets the fact that Geert Wilders has gone public with his anti-Koran film, Dutch prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende said on Thursday evening. The film compares Islam with a number of gruesome crimes and has no aim other than to upset people, Balkenende said. 'The problem is not the religion but the abuse of the religion,' Balkenende said. Several ministers met to discuss their reaction to the film on Thursday evening and spent several hours compiling the government's official response. Balkenende also said the public prosecution department is examining the film to see if any laws have been broken. © DutchNews.nl Get the DutchNews.nl newsletter in your mailbox: Click here to subscribe
The Wilders Hype was worse than his Bytes. It is just a regurgitation of images already played out. Any intelligent person will ignore it for what it is. By Ali | March 28, 2008 7:53 AM Blindness has seized the minds of European leaders. Is mr. Balkenende going to be the new Chamberlain? I'm afraid he will. "The film... has no aim other than to upset people." This leaves me speechless. Does mr. Balkenende really believe what he is saying? I'm waiting for the day when we as Europeans rediscover our will and ability to stand up against oppression - religious or other. We need to demonstrate against the muslim world's reaction to this film. There's nothing insulting about FITNA - but there are many things in it that need to be DISCUSSED. By Mr. Jones | March 28, 2008 8:19 AM Hatred will creat hatred. This film is creating hatred in the hearts of muslims and most of them they practise this faith and has no hate for other religion. on the other hand I never herd that in the muslim world they publish any thing similar to this in thier news or TV. Muslim countries did fight other religious on the public although many people who has other faith than islam are working and living in the Arab world but no one have forced them to integrate or wear Hejab or Borkka. This show the opennes of freedom and peace. Why can't we be just humen and ignor those people who try to get famous only because they support ricisim and faith differences. Denmark has did the same and now Danish products has been boycutted by most of Arabic and Muslim countries and we don't want the same to happen to the Netherlands for no reason only to make Muslims hate the west. By Ebrahim gamil | March 28, 2008 9:08 AM The movie was soley disigned to upset and divide with little fact or evidence, fortuantley to such an extent that its lahughable and for anyone to take it seriously is unlikely, what should be taken seriously is whether Wilders has commited a crime in trying to provoke violence and hatred. BTW Frances James there is no such thing as Islamic fascists, fascism is an authoritarian political ideology that holds the state above all else not religion. By Adam | March 28, 2008 11:39 AM Oh dear, as expected Wilders’ film does indeed appeal to the feeble-minded. How easy it is to tar all Muslims with the same brush, depicting an entire religion as bloodthirsty and simplistic, while conveniently forgetting that virtually all religions institutionalize the prejudices we claim to so abhor in Islam. Orthodox Jews force their women to shave their heads and wear wigs. Is that so very different from headscarves. Jewish women are deemed unclean during menstruation. Christian women are also supposed to wear hats and cover their shoulders in church, while men are told to doff their headgear. Seen any female Catholic priests recently, or female Buddhist priests for that matter? Is homosexuality suddenly acceptable in all forms of Christianity? And do we not have Christian political parties in the Netherlands that deny women full membership and still receive government subsidies? Did we not until quite recently have an education minister who openly contemplated including Intelligent Design (so-called scientific creationism) in the school curriculum, as a counterpoint for that ridiculous theory of evolution. And is the Old Testament so loved by ‘fascist’ Christians and the Jews a testament to a loving and forgiving God? Oh, and could those who applaud the release of this pointless and silly little film, please tell me what profound insights it provides and what it adds to the current debate? By Chas Conway-Stewart | March 28, 2008 11:49 AM What Frances said!!! By Tim Lee | March 28, 2008 12:17 PM "This show the opennes of freedom and peace." People in Iran are being hanged for being gay. You call that free? Wilders is as much a racist and bigot as the Muslim leaders. In most cases, it is the leaders that cause problems, not the individuals. This is one of those cases. The film is upsetting people more because Wilders is a MP. I agree with Balkenende (even though I dislike that man greatly) that it is the 'abuse of Islam' and not the religion itself that is the problem. The Netherlands does not suppress freedom or force people to change their religion. It does require that people moving the the Netherlands respect the customs and lives of everyone living in the country. The Netherlands is a very opinionated country. There are many prejudice people in the country. What make this country special is that people do not force their opinion onto other people. This openness and respect is what must be taught to all people moving here. By Darren S | March 28, 2008 2:03 PM This film by Wilders contains images and acts of muslims acting in a hateful way towards others.Wilders says or does nothing to incite hatred against others,it is the muslims doing that!Yet he is condemned for inciting religious hatred.Pathetic!Wake up Europe. By tony oneill | March 28, 2008 2:41 PM We must not share and help a person to be a famous one for just making some simple easy drawings or movies which is not helping or improving our livings, but instead it make it worse. Prophet Mohammad informed his followers to believe that there is only one god who manage and control this world. Yes,that is the truth,if not ,then tell me mr Geert who is controlling the air we breath,is it invented by a man. Everything around us is brought to us by god,and you are just a little one. War is present everytime in our lifes, from the start of this world till the time Till me mr Geert ,Is prophet mohammad the causer for the well known world war first and second? i hope there will be no more wars. Prophet Mohammad informed us that jesus will be back in the end of this world to guide us,but he did not tell us that he himself will be back . We love jesus, because islam taught us that jesus is the spirit of god and prophet mohammad informed us that jesus will be back, but no one knows when. I am glad that you believe in jesus, because he born in our lands (middle east) and specifically in palestine. I do request from all muslims not to hate the others because of such a movie, but to convince them about the truth. By Mr. Fathi Zahdeh | March 28, 2008 2:54 PM Place your comments: |

Allied soldiers sacrificed their young lives to liberate The Netherlands from Nazi fascists. Yet, the Dutch cabinet doesn't have the courage to stand up against Islamic fascists! What ungrateful cowards they are.
Wilders should be praised by the Dutch government for defending your freedom. It came at a very high price - the death of thousands of soldiers. The ground in The Netherlands is soaked with the blood of our brave World War II soldiers.
Criticism of Wilders dishonors the memory of the men and women who gave their lives so that you could be free.
Signed a disgusted Canadian.
