Court backs new flight tax
Wednesday 19 March 2008
The government has been given the go ahead to introduce a new eco tax on air travel.
The Hague court said the tax, which will be €11.25 on flights of up to 2,500 km and €45 on longer flights, does not conflict with international and EU air travel treaties.
The tax does not apply to transfer passengers who account for some 40% of aircraft movements through Schiphol airport.
The tax will add €180 to the price of a holiday in the Canary Islands for a family of four.
