The second largest police union ACP has overwhelmingly rejected the government’s new pay offer, putting the success of the deal in real doubt.

Earlier, members of the smaller ANPV also turned down the deal, which would give officers roughly 10% more pay spread over three years.
The other main union NPB is due to report the result of its members’ ballot on March 5, as is the union for higher ranks, the VMHP. A number of regional branches of the NPB have already rejected the deal.
Home affairs minister Guusje ter Horst described the deal on the table as her final offer when it was made two weeks ago. The deal was agreed between union bosses and ministry officials under the leadership of an independent mediator after weeks of industrial action.
MPs will hold an emergency debate on the problems surrounding the police pay deal this afternoon.
