Martijn Beekman wins Silver Camera
Monday 21 January 2008
The Silver Camera 2007 was awarded to Volkskrant photographer Martijn Beekman on Sunday for his photo of Liberal party veterans Erica Terpstra, Henk Vonhoff and Frits Korthals Altes looking disgruntled in a limosine following a meeting with Rita Verdonk.
Photo-journalist of the year was Dirk-Jan Visser for a series from Zimbabwe, and talent of the year went to Ilvy Njiokiktjien.
The jury discussion was overshadowed by a row over the inclusion in the nominations of defence ministry photographer Sjoerd Hilckmann, who is not an independent photographer.
Hilckmann won third prize for foreign documentary photography for his series on Dutch soldiers in Afghanistan.
