Barclays withdrawns ABN Amro offer
Friday 05 October 2007
Barclays has withdrawn its offer for Dutch banking group ABN Amro after failing to get enough shares tendered, the UK bank said on Friday.
Barclays also said it is requesting payment of the €200m break fee which it is contractually entitled too under the merger protocol with ABN Amro agreed in April.
The closing date for the Barclays offer was yesterday. The rival bid, from a consortium led by Royal Bank of Scotland, closes today.
