Impressionist Vincent van Gogh painted on old table cloths and tea towels when he did not have enough money to buy linen, Louis van Tilborgh, curator of the Van Gogh Museum curator, says in The Art Newspaper.


The Large Plane Trees (Cleveland Museum of Arts) and Wheatfields in a Mountainous Landscape (Kröller Müller Museum) are among the works on old material, he says.
