Colombia rebel unmasked

The young Dutch woman fighting with anti-government FARC guerillas in Colombia is Tanja Nijmeijer, who graduated in Spanish from Gronginen University in 2002, various media report on Tuesday. The Dutch foreign ministry says it has no idea who she is.

According to the girl’s diaries, which were found and published in South American papers, she has been with FARC for four years but is now tired of the fight.
The Volkskrant quotes a Colombian journalist who says at least 18 young western-Europeans are with the FARC rebels, including possibly one Dutch man. Tanja is in the company of two Norwegian women, the paper says.
It is unclear where Tanja is now. The three women were apparently washing in a river when government troops attacked the rebel camp, killing three people. One source told the Volkskrant that the women had spent two weeks in the forest before joining up with another FARC group.
