Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport will not be able to avoid building a second terminal capable of handling some 25 million passengers a year, airport development director Joop Krul says in today’s Financieele Dagblad.

‘I see a second terminal coming before a sixth runway,’ Krul told the paper. ‘Traffic is growing at between 3% and 4% a year and if that continues it will be unavoidable.’
Schiphol’s current single terminal design handles 60 million passengers a year, of whom 30 million are in transit.
A second terminal, close to Badhoevedorp-Zuid, would be for passengers with Schiphol as their end destination. The total investment needed would be €2.5bn, Krul said.
