Redundancy laws not an issue, says minister

The round-table talks between ministers, unions and employers due to take place early next month will not deal with reforming the redundancy laws, social affairs minister Piet Hein Donner said on Thursday evening.

The aim of the talks is to focus efforts on getting more people into work.
The govenment’s coalition agreement included a proviso to modernise the laws on sacking staff. Employers have long called for it to be made easier.
FNV trade union federation chairwoman Agnes Jongerius said Donner’s statement showed the minister agreed that there was no connection between the redundancy laws and boosting employment opportunities.
