CO2 plans up price of business air tickets
KLM and other European airlines are considering increasing the price of a business-class ticket by between €5 and €40 to cover the cost of CO2 emissions trading, environment minister Jacqueline Cramer told MPs on Thursday evening, according to news agency ANP.
The minister said EU plans to reduce pollution caused by air travel meant airlines would be able to buy and sell ‘rights to pollute’ via the emissions-trading system.
By making airlines pay if they produce more CO2 than agreed, they would be forced to operate in a more environmentally-friendly way.
