Albert Heijn deliveries hit by problems

Thursday 31 May 2007

Supermarket chain Albert Heijn is finding it hard to keep its shelves filled but says it intends to solve the problem within the next six weeks, NOS tv reports.

The company blames its fast expansion for leaving transport companies short of lorry capacity and drivers. Traffic jams have made the problems worse, Albert Heijn claims.

Well, there's a surprise then - has Albert ever managed to keep it's shelves stocked properly?

Given the lack of choice here in the supermarkets I really can't see the problem. I think the chain should look rather more to the quality of it's staff - I'm totally fed up with poor quality customer service, the 'race between the customer and the cashier' at the checkout.

I now shop at my local C1000 where there is a more international choice of products, the prices are cheaper and the staff far more friendly.

Albert - get your act together!

I know a person who had worked for Albert Heijn 32 years - he is now unemployed. Apparently he was too friendly with the customers.

All check-out staff have to get so many people past the kassa in a given period of time. My own experiences with staff and management tells me not to expect courtesy, minimum standards of efficiency and never make a complaint.

As a neighbour I have been taught never to complain to the police when they hire illegal workers to work through the night - starting at 5pm and going on until 9am - WITH an electric drill.

The police informed me that they were unable to do anything as it was Albert Heijn. i tried to complain to the manager and was told to go back home to England if I didn't like their way of doing business.

It's called a monopoly....I think their social problems stem from this.

I lived in the UK for 12 years and shopping for food was great. You pay more but you get friendly staff, great choice, more room and you know you don't have to wait ages because only one till is open.

AH, get your act together, learn to be friendly, keep your shelves full and teach your staff some manners.

This is my first week in Amsterdam and my first bad experience with the city is Albert shop. I was caught back by the doorman over a misunderstanding. I was asking questions as for what was happening. I did not receive any explanation as for what was happening and why I was led to the back of the shop. I was just facing this stupid doorman with dirty hands. The manager finally "released" me with a "I am sorry" and that was it. No sanction whatsover regarding the stupid doorman!
