Schiphol gets office deal for road cash

Friday 13 April 2007

Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport has agreed to pay millions of euros on top of the €15m it has already pledged for the diversion of the A9 motorway at Badhoevedorp, reports news agency ANP.

In return, Schiphol’s property division will be allowed to develop half of the 200,000 square metre Elzenhof business park before 2030. Earlier this year, the regional authorities in Amsterdam agreed to drastically reduce the number of office locations in the area until 2030 because of over-supply. This restriction also applied to Elzenhof.

The new deal between the airport and the Haarlmermeer council was announced on Friday. Neither party would disclose the exact figures involved.

The diversion of the A9 is expected to cost €300m and is due to start in 2012. Haarlmermeer wants to generate around €90m of the financing via land deals such as the one agreed with Schiphol.
