Bank debts up 7% in 2006

Tuesday 13 February 2007

Dutch households borrowed a total of €9.7bn in consumer loans last year, dipping under €10bn for the first time since 1998.

But bank accounts slipped deeper into the red, with bank debts totalling €8bn, an increase of 7% on 2005, the national statistics office CBS said. Borrowing via credit cards was also more popular, rising 4% to €3.2bn.
