Uranium traces found in ground water

An investigation has begun into the source of low levels of uranium in groundwater, apparently leaching from two disused rubbish dumps in Brabant. The provincial council has advised farmers not to use the water, pending the outcome of the checks.

There was no risk to public health because drinking water is drilled from deeper reservoirs or transported from further away, the spokesman said. The uranium is thought to have originated from artificial fertilisers, plaster or green glass.
