Stand-up two wheelers banned

Thursday 04 January 2007

The stand-up motorised two-wheeler known as a Segway was banned from all public roads, bikepaths and pavements in the Netherlands as of New Year's Day – because it's officially classed as a moped.

The Traffic Agency, however, hasn't approved the vehicle so it can't be issued with licence plates. There are several hundred Segways – which can travel at up to 20kph and cost upwards of €5,500 – in the country.
