Henk Fraser has been sacked as coach of FC Utrecht following a training ground incident in which he allegedly grabbed a player by the throat, according to Dutch media.

Technical director Jordy Zuidam is said to have stepped in after witnessing the confrontation between Fraser and striker Amin Younes during a training camp in Spain.

The team are spending a week in Campoamor while the domestic league takes a break for the World Cup in Qatar.

The Eredivisie club would not confirm the details of the incident reported in AD, but said it would be issuing a statement later on Wednesday.

Fraser took over as coach of Utrecht at the start of the current season and guided them to seventh place after a difficult start, winning their last four league matches.

He was previously coach of Rotterdam club Sparta and served as assistant to Netherlands national men’s team coach Louis van Gaal until April.
