The number of positive coronavirus tests reported to public health institute RIVM is still not up to date because of technical problems, the agency said on Monday.

In total, 64,757 positive cases were registered with the RIVM in the 24 hours to Monday morning, but the true total remains unclear because of the delays.

Nevertheless, the RIVM said the average number of daily cases over the past week is at least 49,000. Nearly 45% of people going for a PCR test at a regional health centre are testing positive, with teenagers accounting for the biggest share of new infections.

Prime minister Mark Rutte said ahead of the most recent coronavirus rule change that the number of positive tests a day could go up to 80,000.

Capacity

The regional health board association GGD GHOR said on Monday that its testing centres had now reached maximum capacity because of problems as the labs which process the tests.

Last week regional health boards carried out just under one million tests, while capacity is no more than 150,000 per day.

Commercial test for entry centres will now take over some of the testing to help meet demand.
