Three men have been arrested on the holiday island of Majorca following allegations of rape made by a Dutch woman.

According to Spanish media, the woman, who is 20, met the three men – two Spanish and one Cuban – after an night out on the town and she and her friends went to have a drink at the apartment they were staying in.

The woman says she was attacked after visiting the toilet and coming back to find her friends had disappeared. She was able to return to her own hotel, where the receptionist alerted the police.

According to Diario de Mallorca, one of men has admitted having sex with the Dutch woman but claims it was consensual.

The men have been remanded in custody and, says NOS correspondent Rop Zoutberg, this indicates the judge does not trust their story.

Majorca hit the Dutch headlines earlier in the summer after the death of 27-year-old Carlo Heuvelman, who died after being beaten up by fellow Dutch nationals on the island.

That investigation was later transferred to the Netherlands and two men remain in custody in connection with his death.
