20% of men have lower education levels than their parents

Although people are becoming better educated in general, nearly 20% of men aged between 26 and 40 have a lower level of education than their parents, according to research by the social development council RMO.

Some 38% of men and 35% of women born between 1970 and 1984 went to either hbo college or university, the research shows. This is an increase of several percent on people born between 1960 and 1969.
The figures are contained in the RMO’s latest report on social developments in the Netherlands.
The research also shows that people who are extremely overweight are becoming more likely to have low levels of education.
Some 40% of the Dutch are overweight and 11% are clinically obese, the researchers said.
