Joint strike fighter vote this afternoon

MPs will vote this afternoon on whether to buy two test JSF fighter jets, a decision which could have serious consquences for the coalition government, according to most newspapers on Wednesday.

Labour, one of three parties in the coalition government, has not yet decided whether to back the purchase. Party leaders met for talks on the issue at the prime minister’s office for over two hours on Tuesday night.
‘The debate is at 4pm on Wednesday so we have all the time in the world,’ Labour’s parliamentary leader Mariette Hamer said after the talks.
The Christian Democrats and defence ministry want to sign the deal to replace the ageing F16s with the JSF by the end of this month.
