Sharpest fall in exports in 20 years

Dutch exports saw their sharpest fall in almost 20 years in January with a drop of 14% compared to a year earlier, reports the national statistics office CBS on Friday.

The value of the exports decreased 21% in the same period to €24.4bn while imports were 22% lower at €21.6bn.
The reason for the fall in foreign trade is the result of the worldwide economic crisis and was expected, said the CBS.
Import volumes were also down by 14%, said the CBS.
