ING to pay thousands extra bonuses

Financial services group ING is to pay ‘discretionary bonuses’ to thousands of staff, a spokesman for the bank says in Friday’s Volkskrant.

The spokesman did not say how much was to be paid out, but did say the total was half of last year’s level.
ING, which has had a €10bn capital injection from the Dutch state plus €22bn in guarantees for risky US investments, booked a loss of €729m last year.
Finance minister Wouter Bos told news agency ANP that he was not happy about the extra payouts. ‘But I cannot do anything about it. ING is not a state company,’ he said.
