Cabinet split on privatisation of power grids

The two main government parties are divided over a proposal by the energy council to partly privatise electricity and gas grids, reports Het Financieele Dagblad on Monday.

While Labour supports the recommendation of the council, the Christian Democrats say the idea is out of the question, the paper reports.
Last week, the council called for the setting up of an energy and climate fund which could be created with money generated from selling off minority stakes in the grids to Dutch institutional investors.
The fund could then finance projects that would stimulate the economy.
