Arrest made in playground murder case

A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of an Amsterdam school assistant close to a playground full of children on Tuesday, the Telegraaf reports.

The man was carrying a knife when he was arrested close to the Amstelveenseweg metro station in the south of the city on Thursday morning. Police gave no further details.
Meanwhile, a Lelystad police spokesman denied earlier reports that there seemed to be strong links with a series of stabbings in the new town. ‘Initial discussions with Amsterdam did not throw up any links between the stabbing incidents,’ the Telegraaf quoted him as saying.
