Temporary lay-off period extended

Social affairs minister Piet Hein Donner has agreed to extend the deadline for applications to be considered for short time working by three weeks to March 21.

By the end of last week, 511 companies had applied to either lay off staff or cut their hours, the Financieele Dagblad says.
Donner hopes to sign a deal with unions and employers mid March to head off the threat of mass redundancies. Donner wants this to include a commitment to wage moderation or even a pay freeze.
