What's OnDanceHolland Dance Festival The two-yearly international contemporary dance festival features established dancers and choreographers and newcomers. It offers around 60 performances plus a full programme of workshops and master classes. This year's highlights are a one-woman version of The Rites of Spring by Meryl Tankard, the Ballet Boyz and Bill T Jones' ballet about Abraham Lincoln. There is also a special programme featuring Tim Persent, who is celebrating his 25 years in the Netherlands. Danstheater, The Hague, January 26 to February 26. Introdans Gekkebekken (Funny Faces) is a fast-paced and energetic combination of seven works by seven choreographers. It includes Lightfoot/Léon's Sad Case, known as 'the chewing gum ballet' because of its elastic movements. DeLaMar, Amsterdam, February 13; Stadsschouwburg, Haarlem, February 19 (matinee). Introdans is celebrating its 40th anniversary this season and Hemels (Heavenly) is a chance to revisit three major works from its repertoire. They are Messiah by Ed Wubbe, Paradise? by Gisela Rocha and Fünf Gedichte by Nils Christie. These are the two duets Sticky Piece and Black Cake and the 1969 classic Squares. Muziektheater, Amsterdam, February 15, 18, 22, 25 and March 2. The much-praised version of Swan Lake by Rudi van Dantzig, who died recently, returns for the first time since 2006. It features a number of dancers in the roles of Odette/Odile and Siegfried. The music is by Tchaikovsky and the gorgeous sets and costumes by Toer van Schayk. Nederlands Dans Theater The programme Traces consists of three solo dances, two of them world premiers. The new pieces are Garbo Laughs by Marco Goecke and Solo Echo by Crystal Pite. The third is Jirí Kylián's Double You from 1994, in which a man against time in the form of two giant pendulums. Scapino Ballet Performances of Ed Wubbe's latest full-length ballet, Pearl, with live music by the Combattimento Consort conducted by Jan Willem de Vriend and the counter-tenor Maarten Engeltjes. The sets and costumes are by Pamela Homoet. This ballet is a skillful combination of Baroque music, dance and design.
