Ziggo overtakes KPN in number of telephone land lines in shrinking market

Cable company Ziggo has overtaken rival KPN in the number of fixed telephony land lines it operates, Telecompampaper said in statement on Thursday.

Ziggo now has 41.9% of the market, compared to KPN’s 41.1%, the research bureau said.

But the market itself continues to compact: there were a total of 6,095,000 fixed telephone connections in the Netherlands in the fourth quarter of 2017, 25,000 fewer than in the previous three months, the bureau said.

Total fixed line turnover was €247 million in the final quarter, a decline of €5m. Telecompaper is forecasting a 6.9% decline in fixed telephony revenues in 2018.
