A record 1.1 million tourists visited Rotterdam last year, a 10% rise on 2016, the city council said on Monday.

In particular, visits to the city’s museums rose 12% year on year, with the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, the Kunsthal and the maritime museum topping the list. The city’s museums attracted 1.2 million visitors in total.

Just over half the visitors who spent a night in the city came from the Netherlands. Germany accounted for most foreign tourists, followed by the UK and Belgium.

Business travellers accounted for over half the 1.8 million overnight stays.
