Dutch have frozen 100 bank accounts to head off terrorism funding risk

The names of 10 more people have been added to the national terrorism list, taking the total to 97 people and three organisations. Eleven of the people suspected of terrorist links are women, broadcaster RTL Nieuws said on Tuesday.

The bank accounts of people included on the list are frozen to stop them using their cash to finance terrorism via Dutch bank accounts. However, they can have access to sufficient funds to buy food and pay rent, if the finance ministry gives approval, RTL said.

It is also a criminal offence to give money to the people and organisations on the list.

The list of people whose assets have been frozen is circulated within Europe with the aim of sharing information about the funding of terrorism, the broadcaster quoted foreign affairs minister Bert Koenders as saying.
