The export of Dutch flowers and plants is expected to rise to a record €5.7bn in 2016, sector organisation VGB said on Tuesday evening.  This is an increase of 3% over 2015 and is based on developments through end-November, the Telegraaf reported.

The export of flowers was 2% higher at €3.3bn at the end of last month, while sales abroad of plants jumped nearly 5% to €2bn in the same period, VGB said. Exporters expect the sales growth to continue into 2017.

Germany remains the top export market and registered 7% growth to €1.5bn through the end of November.

The UK was the only country of the VGB’s top 10 markets with falling export figures. Sales declined by 5.5% in the period under review largely because of the weaker pound sterling.
