Five hbo colleges are working together to create a database of thousands of exam questions as part of a campaign against fraud and exam theft, broadcaster RTL Nieuws said on Thursday.

The colleges argue that by creating an open database, there will be no need for exam paper secrecy and it will be impossible for students to learn all the answers off by heart.

The actual exams will be put together by computer, which will pick random questions from the database. This means no two exam papers will be the same, the broadcaster said.

Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht hbo colleges are working together with the Saxion college group in the east of the country to draw up the database.

‘If you’ve got 10,000 questions about a particular subject and a student has learned them all off by heart, then we have reached our goal,’ said Saxion spokesman Bert Velt. ‘Then the student will know what he is supposed to know.’

RTL says The Hague and Rotterdam have already introduced the new testing method for business administration courses and the others will follow soon.
