The Hague goes to court to try to end Pokémon chaos in Kijkduin seaside resort

The Hague city council is going to court in an effort to end the problems being caused by Pokémon Go players in the seaside resort of Kijkduin and in the sensitive dune area.
Attempts to get the game maker to remove the dunes from the game have failed and the courts are the only remaining option, a spokesman told the AD.
On Wednesday the council went to court to ask for an injunction against game maker Niantic. The case will be heard on October 11.
The council is demanding a ban on Pokémon figures appearing on and around the town’s Deltaplein from 11pm to 7am and a complete ban on the figures in the dunes.
‘This will make sure Kijkduin remains attractive for Pokémon Go players but will reduce the nuisance to locals and stop damage in the dunes,’ the spokesman said.
Kijkduin declared itself to the Pokémon capital of the Netherlands at the beginning of August but quickly came to regret the decision after thousands of players flooded in, forcing it to employ extra security guards and rent temporary toilet blocks.
The cost of the measures is put at some €1,500 a week, the AD said.
