Temperatures may be set to reach highs of 30 degrees next week, but seaside towns are pressing ahead with the dismantling of beach huts in line with local regulations.

In many resorts, wooden beach huts should be taken down at the beginning of September and this weekend many will disappear from the country’s beaches, broadcaster NOS said on Friday.

In Egmond aan Zee, for example, beach huts must be cleared and put into storage for winter by September 15, whatever the weather. They can be put up again in time for Easter next year.

Even though many owners would like to prolong their beach stay, there are good reasons for the deadline, NOS said. ‘When there is an ‘r’ in the month, the sea is more powerful and the tide is higher in September and October,’ one hut owner told the broadcaster. ‘The waves can hit the dunes.’

Weather forecasters say the summery weather will continue to next Friday at least although the risk of storms will increase as the week progresses.
