The leaning tower of Utrecht causes panic, police close off area

Part of the area around Utrecht’s central station was closed off by police for a short period on Tuesday after passersby said they feared one of the new buildings was on the verge of collapse
.
The Poortgebouw building, which is part of the renovation of the Hoog Catharijne shopping centre, appears to be leaning backwards, a design feature which has become more apparent as building continues.

The tower led to a flurry of worried messages on Twitter, prompting the police to take action. After checking with the building company, however, the area was reopened to the public.

The building, which will include shops and a hotel, is due to be completed next year.
