A woman from Alkmaar has been jailed for three years, one suspended, for killing one of her babies and hiding the bodies of two others. The three babies were born between 2007 and 2014.

Yasmine M had been charged with the manslaughter of the three girls and hiding their bodies in Alkmaar and Heerhugowaard. One of the bodies was found by a sniffer dog hidden in the attic of a house in Heerhugowaard last October. A second was found in a shed. The third body had been found earlier in a park in Alkmaar.

The court ruled that M was fully accountable for the killing of baby Skye, who drowned in the bath at the age of around three days. However, given the other two babies were in such a severe state of decomposition when found, it could not be proven that M had also killed them, the court said.

M had killed Skye, the court said, because she was terrified her pregnancy would be discovered.

As well as two years in jail, M was ordered to undergo blood and urine tests for the next 10 years to monitor her for possible pregnancies.

The public prosecution department had called for a four year jail term.
