Bullied schoolboy found guilty of stabbing classmate to death

justice courts legal systemA 16-year-old school boy who stabbed a fellow pupil to death in the playground last October will spend 20 months in a juvenile detention centre before being admitted to a psychiatric clinic, a court in The Hague ruled on Friday.

The court said Anthony D had killed a 15-year-old boy but he was not completely responsible for his actions.

Court documents showed that D had been seriously bullied in the weeks leading up to the crime and was threatened several times by gangs of youths, including two from his school in Voorburg.

The school itself refused to get involved because the threats were not made on school premises.

It was only when someone from social services alerted the school, that it took action. However, a planned meeting never took place. The next day D stabbed classmate Wesley dead. He had not been involved in the out-of-school threats.

D has been in a juvenile detention centre since his arrest. His lawyer told reporters the boy sincerely regrets what happened but is relieved not to be bullied any longer.
